A wonderful Victorian sovereign case crafted in 9ct gold. This is an excellent example of an antique sovereign case. It is chased with a folate design on the back and front. It has an empty cartouche in the middle on one side, perfect if you wold like to personalise the piece with an engraving.

Sovereign cases were designed so that sovereigns could be safely and stylishly transported. They were often worn as a fob, attached to one end of a watch chain. A sovereign case is a real statement piece. It would be fabulous worn on a long chain on its own or as part of a neck stack.

The sovereign case measures 30mm across the circle of the case and has a drop of 43mm from the top of the bail to the bottom of the case. It weighs 15g. The case is crafted in 9ct antique yellow gold. It is stamped on the bail and twice on the internal sovereign holder mechanism with ‘9 375’ for 9ct gold. It also has hallmark for Birmingham, 9ct gold, 1897 on the underside of the lid, with the maker’s mark of ‘A.W.”. The sovereign case closes securely with a satisfying click.
